Pizza Hut Breadsticks are divine. Dough heaven! At the unlimited buffet, I always head for breadsticks first, even before the pizza and salad bar. And I’m ashamed to admit that – I’ve even sneaked a couple I couldn’t eat on my plate home in my handbag for breakfast the next day. That’s why when I heard about this copycat Pizza Hut breadsticks recipe, I had to give it a try.
I’m not exactly sure what is so addictive about these breadsticks. Their buttery loveliness or the umami blend of toppings. There’s definitely something magical that makes me lose all sense of control whenever I encounter them. So, I wanted to try and recreate them in my kitchen. This copycat recipe comes pretty close to the original Pizza Hut Breadsticks.
Copycat Pizza Hut Breadsticks Recipe
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups warm water (about 43°C)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 ½ cups plain flour (plus extra for kneading)
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the Topping:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
1. Dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water in a bowl. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes or until the mixture becomes frothy.
2. Combine the yeast mixture with olive oil, flour, and salt in a separate bowl. Mix until the ingredients form a dough.
3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. If the dough sticks to the surface, add a little flour, one tablespoon at a time.
4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape The Breadsticks
1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan/gas mark 6). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
2. Once the dough has risen, knock it back to release any air bubbles. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1cm thick.
3. Cut the dough into strips about 2-3cm wide using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife.
4. Transfer the dough strips to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2cm apart.
5. Allow ] to rest for about 10 minutes before baking.
Prepare the Topping:
1. While the dough rests, melt the butter in a small saucepan or microwave. Mix the garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, parsley, and sea salt in a small bowl.
2. Brush the melted butter over the tops of the breadsticks. Sprinkle over the seasoning.
3. Finally, sprinkle the grated Parmesan over the top.
Baking and Serving
1. Bake the breadsticks in the oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and the edges are crispy.
2. Remove from the oven and brush them with any remaining melted butter. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
3. Serve with your favourite dipping sauce.
